When speaking about the protection of electrical installation, the most often meant is the overcurrent protection. This is the protection that must be activated in case of exceedingly high currents in an installation (the currents whose value is higher than expected). It can be achieved using safety fuses, or (automatic) circuit breakers; there are two other names: LS and MCB switches.

The task of that protection is to switch out faulty circuits, and thereby protect the loads that are connected to those circuits, thus preventing the consequences (in the first place thermal overloading of conductors, and fire risk). In new buildings are in dwelling electrical installations almost exclusively used circuit breakers owing to their numerous advantages:

• simple use,

• multiple use (no replacement is needed after operation),

• smaller size,

• increased safety.

There is a large choice of circuit breakers by various manufacturers on the market. Their basic technical characteristics are:

• rated current,

• breaking characteristic,

• short-circuit capacity, etc.

The rated current value of the protection device must provide the best possible overcurrent protection of an installation.

When choosing the breaking characteristics, usually are available B, C and (sometimes) also D – complying with the IEC 60898 standard. For a residential installation the most often used is B characteristic. However, if loads with high starting current are to be connected to that installation, (e.g. angle grinders), C characteristics should be used, because it is more resistant to undesired switching-offs at the start.

The short-circuit capacity is declared by its maximum current. A circuit breaker (according to requirements of the standard) must be strong enough to break a circuit three times, and still preserve specific technical characteristics required.

The values, marked on the products, are: 3.000, 4.000, 6.000 and 10.000 A. It is true that usually in housing installation the actual short-circuit currents are lower. But for sure a circuit breaker which is able to break three times 6.000 A, can still more times break lower short-circuit current than a circuit breaker which is declared to be able to break three times 3.000 A. That’s the reason why in some countries (e.g. Germany) the installation of circuit breakers with the short-circuit capacity under 6.000 A is not allowed; so one must be careful when choosing a circuit breaker, it isn’t recommendable to choose circuit breakers having the lowest short-circuit capacity, which is, of course, the cheapest. In addition, neither should be ignored the quality sign on products (e.g. VDE, KEMA and the like), because it ensures the product has been submitted to an appropriate type test.

For single-phase circuits single-phase (single-pole) circuit breakers are used, and for three-phase circuits – three-pole circuit breakers that are specially produced and calibrated by the manufacturer. Therefore composition of three-pole circuit breakers using three single-pole devices is not an adequate solution, and “in the field composed” circuit breaker doesn’t ensure all technical characteristics prescribed.

The second type of protection for an electric installation is protection against electric shock, i.e. against harmful effects of electric current on human body. Three levels of such a protection are known:

• protection against direct contact,

• protection against indirect contact,

• additional protection by using high-sensitive protection switches.

Since the safety is more and more important, for better protection of humans and animals and better fire safety is steadily being developed and perfected a third level – additional protection. The matter concerns the use of so-called residual current circuit breakers (old names for these protection devices are: current protection switches, FI & FID switches, and abbreviations RCCB, RCD). Additional protection for people and animals is enabled only by high-sensitivity protective switches of 30 mA or less. The protective switches with sensitivity of 100 mA are suitable only for fire protection, whereas protective switches with sensitivity of 300 or 500 mA are only convenient to be used as main protective switches.

The residual current circuit breakers are recommended wherever the risk of electric shock is increased: in bathrooms and other humid and wet rooms, nurseries and workshops, where portable electric tools are often used. Needless to say that their use is much expanded in hospitals, kindergartens and schools. The residual current circuit breakers can be used in all installation systems where null and protective conductors are separated. In old electrical installations where so-called nulling is still used such protective switches cannot be used.

Both types of protection: against overcurrent and against electric shock can be combined into one single protective device, named residual current circuit breaker with overcurrent protection (other names for this device: combined protective switch, FI/LS switch, RCBO). These devices include technical characteristics that are a combination of characteristics of both previous protective devices(rated current, breaking characteristic, short-circuit capacity, current sensitivity, etc.). By means of such a device a full-scale protection of electrical installations in a room can be achieved.

Smaller publishers tend to be more focused, and they usually release news on hand picked products only. Being small, they can’t possibly cover everything under the sun. So it’s a wise strategy to adopt. Often, you find articles that are much more in depth. The owners are also more likely to be very passionate about the tech products they are writing about.

When buying a tech gadget, you usually pay more for newer technology. The important here is to remember that everything new comes with a much heftier price tag. The technology may not be necessarily better (e.g. buggy since it’s new), but you still end up paying substantially more for the product anyway.

If you want to save some money, just be patient. Keep browsing the tech news to keep yourself abreast of the changes. For instance, how is the technology improving? What are others saying about the brand new gadget? If you read nothing but great reviews on the product, that is a good sign.

You may need to suppress your own desire a little, so that you don’t end up rushing to be the first in line to buy that new camcorder, new television, or new mobile phone. Just wait a little. The price will come down soon enough as soon as the masses start to adopt the new technology. That way, you get a more stable device, at a much lower price.

As you can see the possibilities are endless for what toolbars will come out with next. What will future technology bring? One can only guess. Can you imagine a toolbar where you can see the person your chatting with? Or how about your toolbar reading your mind and pulling up exactly what you want to see on the Internet with you just thinking about it? Now that one wont probably happen until a long ways into the future, but it sure will be fun when it does happen. To keep track of the latest toolbars out there just do a search at Google or look into toolbar directories. Also different browsers support different toolbars. The Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers usually support most toolbars.

• Added Features. New models are equipped with additional features such as speakerphones, caller ID, and digital answering machines.

The most recommended fax machines are those that use plain paper. The earlier models use thermal transfer paper, which is not good since the paper easily curls and the prints fade easily. Nowadays, laser fax machines are not so expensive. Usually it costs $200 which is a good price considering the quality of prints by these machines.

One of the leading brands of fax machine is the 1940CN Brother IntelliFax. The speed is excellent having 3 second of transmission. It offers great features such as it can store up to 480 pages with its memory, 20 pages automatic document feeders, 100 sheet paper cassettes and comes with an answering machine. The answering machine can record 30 minutes of voice message.

Next comes the Hewlett Packard 1050 Inkjet Fax. This machine can transmit 1 page of fax message in just 3 seconds. It can save 100 pages of fax message with its built-in memory. It also features a speakerphone and remote access for the answering machine.

Another one of the good fax machines is the HP Fax 1240. The machine is equipped with colored ink. The memory can store up to 200 fax messages. It has the capacity of 100-sheet input and 20-sheet output.

For an occasional use and a not so demanding performance, the Brother IntelliFax-1270e is one of the good ones. It uses the old thermal ribbon transfer technology. This fax machine can only print in black and white. This machine is a good choice for home use or for personal use. This model is slower, with 9 seconds in transmitting compared to its predecessors but is suitable for its purpose. It does not have an answering machine capability.

Fax machines made by Oki are particularly for medium to large companies. They produce fax machines with costly laser printing technology. Now, the less expensive model is the Okifax 4580, which costs around $380. The transmission speed is 3 seconds per page. It has a 20 page ADF, sheet capacity of 100 and only prints in black and white. It can send fax messages up to 120 locations and creates 50 copies.

The Canon L80 is the cheaper predecessor of Okifax 4580 with almost half of the price. The Canon L80 shares the same specifications of the Okifax 4580.

Usually, you can tell if a blog is a quality blog or not just be reading the first few posts. On the Internet, everything is about content. So killer content is what you are looking for. For technology blogs, killer content means more than just being grammatically correct. It also means more than just copy and paste specifications. Specifications of technological gadgets are important, but once the specifications have been publicly released, almost every blog can post such information. In other words, the information is not unique.

What you want is unique information – information that cannot easily be found elsewhere. For example, a technology blog can hand pick interesting technology gadgets and write exclusive reviews on these gadgets. You can read about the latest voice activated alarm clock, or the latest gaming laptop, 3G iPhone, etc. Since these gadgets appeal to the masses, you are assured of interesting content. Those are the blogs that are worth reading and following.

You may then choose to follow those news sources by subscribing to their RSS feeds. You can do this using an RSS reader. If you do not want to use a feed reader, you can simply bookmark the sites and visit them at a later date.

Before purchasing a camcorder in fact, any expensive product it is usually worth doing a bit of research. There are many sources of good information and the internet has vast numbers of product reviews posted constantly. These reviews are written you would assume by every day people like you and me who have had experience with certain makes and models of camcorder or whatever product the review is about, and who will give honest opinions of their good and bad points regarding quality, features etc.

There are however other sources which you can tap into and get good honest information such as trade magazines and a really good retail store would most likely have staff who would be able to answer your questions (provided they are not just out for a quick sale too!) Purchasing expensive items such as camcorders online can prove to be difficult especially if you make a purchase only to end up with a poor quality, disappointing product because you have based your decision on reviews which were not totally honest and there is really not much you can do about it. That is unless the camcorder just does not work.

There are numerous makes and models of camcorder on the market, many offering great features and really good quality in the pictures they produce. Before you get as far as parting with hard earned cash ensure you know what you are looking for in a camcorder, know your budget and it is also wise to take into consideration the amount of experience you have with camcorders. There is no point purchasing a very complicated top of the range, expensive model when you really don’t have a clue what you are doing. Start with something simple and reasonably priced until you are more competent.

The real moral of this article is make sure you do your homework thoroughly and more importantly accurately. Don’t rush into anything or you could make a very costly mistake.

Covering 2-3 pages length, all those articles are politically correct providing the appropriate information without overwhelming the reader, while allowing the analysis of the important issues.

The cover story is usually tackling the most important story of the week. However, it could also be about an utterly intriguing topic that people are not aware of or know too little about it. Newsweek has been featuring in its cover story topics related to religion (Radical Islam), gender (Rethinking Gender), pain (The New War on Pain), and even cosmology (Unbeliever’s Quest Scientist Carl Sagan).

Although these may be controversial topics, still they are written in an excellent, objective way, by veteran, well experienced journalists, who have made Newsweek a winning award magazine. Fareed Zakaria with his expertise on international affairs; Jonathan Alter with his knowledge on politics; George Will with his intelligent commentary echoing a conservative point of view; Anna Quindlen with liberal, empathetic columns.

Newsweek features also some regular columns. Conventional Wisdom is a snapshot of the hottest jokes and gaffes by politicians and journalists, while Periscope contains articles on multiple subjects. Also, My Turn and Letters measure the pulse of ordinary readers, who contribute with their opinion to the public discussion.

On the other hand though, as the majority of mainstream magazines, Newsweek’s journalism is rather soft. Instead of asking hard questions or investigating thoroughly anything that would set national elected officials’ feet to the fire, Newsweek reporters pose soft questions to politicians thus keeping away from their legitimate duty to outline political issues.

In addition, the stories enclosed in Newsweek are typically too brief for the sake of squeezing as many as possible into each issue. However, putting more stories that cover complex issues insufficiently at the expense of less stories that would cover all issues sufficiently results in confusing the readers. Because of that, usually commendable job in tackling complex issues is misjudged due to lack of space.

Personally, I find Newsweek a quite good news-related magazine that straddles the middle political ground with the inclusion of articles from both liberal and conservative standpoints. Being my one-stop information source, Newsweek not only keeps me alert and informed, but it also challenges me to re-evaluate and support my beliefs without seeking to emphasize on them. Featuring in-depth reports with varied viewpoints as well as stimulating articles and compelling columns Newsweek stimulates me and educates me.

In addition to its level of even sided coverage, Newsweek features extremely interesting and informative articles. The latest I recall was about enough positive stories to prevent any occurences of heartburn. So, if you want to stay informed on national and global events, subscribe to Newsweek.
